Health and Well Being

Many clients come to us in a poor mental and physical state, and our main priority is helping them feel well again, as well as giving them the right tools to end their substance addiction permanently.

Our approach is holistic; we treat the mind, body and soul.

Health-and-Wellbeing

Physical Dangers of Addiction

Various substances carry various risks, and the impact of addiction can affect every single organ in our body. Some of the most common risks are:

  • Stroke
  • Heart disease
  • Cancer
  • HIV/AIDS
  • Hepatitis B and C
  • Liver failure

How We Improve Your Physical Health

Detoxification

The initial stage is generally a complete detox. This process can be quite dangerous, and the sudden cessation of substance abuse can result in seizures and even death if not properly treated. We have experienced medical staff who specialize in addiction within our facility, who will monitor you 24/7 and check your vital signs.

Due to the unpleasant and uncomfortable nature of detox, where the client must fight their severe cravings, we can provide some medication to ease the pain.

Once detox has finished, the more long-term treatments can begin.

Healthy Eating

A healthy diet is very rarely someone’s first thought when they are suffering from addiction. For this reason, many clients who first begin treatment with us are underweight or malnourished.

One of our primary focuses is making you feel physically better as soon as possible, and diet is an instrumental part of this. We have a nutritionist on site, as well as a chef who cooks nutritious and balanced meals for all our clients.

Our onsite chef will meet with you individually to discuss any dietary needs or preferences, and will endeavor to fill your life with nutritious foods you may have gone without before. Many of our clients feel so revitalized by their new and improved diet that they maintain it after they leave. Not only does this help them stay physically fit, but allows for some comforting consistency as part of their recovery process.

We are what we eat and physical wellness cannot be achieved without a conscientious approach to diet.

Yoga and Exercise

There are various ways to exercise within our facility, and we encourage it wholeheartedly.

There are nature hikes as well as a full gym and fitness suite, so exercise can be conducted both indoors and outdoors. We also have a personal trainer available to discuss individual workout plans and support you through your recovery journey. Everyone, no matter what their age or physical limitations, can exercise in some form.

We also offer yoga classes, which have a profoundly positive effect on both mental and physical health, particularly anxiety prevention and ‘mindfulness’.

Sleep Patterns

Rest is a key ingredient of physical and mental health. When the body doesn’t get enough sleep, it can weaken the immune system and influence mental health, hindering recovery and healing.

We work closely with all of our clients to help them achieve a healthy sleep pattern, because it has such a profound knock-on effect on the rest of their treatment. Everyone going through treatment establishes a healthy sleep pattern and we do everything we can to help the process.

Psychological Dangers of Addiction

Substances affect our brain as well as our body. Exercising the body and eating a healthy diet do have a positive effect on mental health, but there are other treatments which tackle mental health directly. Some of the psychological dangers of substance abuse are:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Psychosis
  • Obsessive behaviors

How We Improve Your Mental Health

Spirituality Groups

We help those clients who wish to, to reconnect with God or strengthen their relationship with spirituality in these group meetings. Feeling spiritually connected can really motivate people to work hard at their recovery, and a lot of our clients benefit from this during their treatment.

It can really help to feel watched over and looked after, especially after a period of self-destruction.

A Positive Community

Recovery doesn’t happen when people are alone and shut themselves away. We encourage a sense of community within our facility, including laughter, mutual support and collaboration. Group therapies as well as a shared residential environment have helped people make lifelong friends and build a new, healthy support system. We ensure recovery isn’t a lonely time for anyone.

Counseling

Talking therapy can be either in a group of individual, and everyone meets at least weekly with a licensed and experienced addiction therapist. It’s during these sessions that clients can start to see why they have developed their addiction and what they need to do to prevent relapse.

Addiction is inherently an internal struggle, and our therapy sessions strive to help share that burden by teaching methods for an individual to cope.
